No. While Momcology was created by moms, it is for childhood cancer families; this includes dads and primary caregivers with legal and medical authority for a child diagnosed with pediatric type cancer. Most Momcology programming is open to both moms and dads; exceptions include Dadcology Fireside chats, reserved for dads and male primary caregivers, and Momcology Retreats, which are exclusively for moms and female primary caregivers.
Only the members of Momcology social media groups can see what you post in the groups. Our groups are peer moderated and we do rely on the honor system that information shared within Momcology will not be shared anywhere else. If we find that a member is not adhering to these guidelines, they will be removed from Momcology.
(Please be aware that comments made on the public Momcology social media accounts can be viewed by the public.)
Momcology is only for primary caregivers with both legal and medical authority for a child diagnosed with cancer. Extended family members and friends are welcome to follow the public Momcology social media accounts to see more about what Momcology is doing and how to support us!
Momcology guidelines keep our support groups and events safe and approachable for all those who would like to explore the benefits of peer support. Our full guidelines can be found in the footer of our website.
Yes! We highly encourage parents to take breaks from online support at any time and when needed. Your health and wellbeing ALWAYS come first. We consider Momcology to be an option for additional support. There are ways to control what you see on Facebook including Momcology group posts. We love that parents can control how much or how little they engage with Momcology online support. If you need a break, we will always be here for you when you are ready to come back.
Referring families is easy. Just send them directly to our website, www.momcology.org to complete a membership profile and customize the ways they would like to connect with other families.
To make sure that our groups include only childhood cancer primary caregivers, as well as to make sure that new members are put into the appropriate groups for their situation, we do require that everyone in our Momcology groups complete a membership profile through on our website.
Momcology is not a Facebook group, but rather an international 501c3 providing both online support groups through the Facebook platform as well as programming, both in person and virtually, for the more than 12,000 families we have connected. In order to best serve our community members it is important that we understand who is in our community and what their unique needs are based on their individual situations. We also want to be able to identify areas we may not be reaching families to help find ways to ensure support is accessible for everyone.
If you are not on social media you are welcome to complete a membership profile and request to be added to our email distribution list. You will receive information via email regarding upcoming events, giveaways, merchandise and other opportunties to engage with Momcology.
You can always reach a member of the Momcology team by emailing info@momcology.org
Momcology Connections is a program co-developed by Momcology with two partner hospitals and works through licensing agreements with other institutions. If you are interested in bringing Connections to your local hospital please reach out to your psychosocial team and ask that they contact us at info@momcology.org for information. Please note, due to hospital liability policies, attendance at Connections programs is limited to parents whose children have been seen or treated at the Connections program hospital system.
