Family Handbook

A cancer diagnosis can bring changes to the lives of the whole family. Many families have said that their child’s diagnosis brings feelings of fear, anger, sadness, and guilt. If you find yourself struggling with these emotions, know that you are not alone and that having these feelings is normal.  Each family has their unique ways of coping with stressful experiences. The Children’s Oncology Group Family Handbook can provide families with reliable information about treatment, support, and follow-up care for children and young people with cancer.

New Diagnosis Guide

When your child is newly diagnosed you may not be familiar with cancer, its treatments, and their effects. In the beginning, it can feel very overwhelming and you may feel like you are learning a new language. The New Diagnosis Guide is designed to be used with the Family Handbook for focused teaching of essential content at the time of diagnosis. By working with your healthcare team and taking it one step at a time, you will learn what you need to know to care for your child. This guide is an introduction to your learning.

AYA New Diagnosis Guide

The New Diagnosis Guide for Teens and Young Adults (AYA New Diagnosis Guide) is designed as a teaching tool for AYA with cancer and contains the essential information they need during diagnosis. This guide is a tool to help empower AYAs so they feel comfortable being a part of the discussions and decisions about their treatment.
