Momcology is building a lifetime network of support childhood cancer families. The effects of childhood cancer can last years, decades, and sometimes a lifetime for children and families no matter the outcome. Our programs and services were created to help families proactively cope, learn, and heal with a community of others who know the unique challenges we must face after a pediatric cancer diagnosis.
Families need support and community where they are. Our programs, both virtual and in-person, are available throughout the year and are always changing and growing with the needs of our community. From casual connecting events to curriculum-based presentations and informational webinars, Momcology is here to support you as a caregiver and pediatric cancer advocate. Our signature restorative retreat weekends are focused on building close peer connections, learning self-care strategies, and identifying new coping skills for caregivers to integrate into their daily lives as they care for their families. Since 2014, hundreds of mothers across the United States have received the benefits of participating in a Momcology Retreat and have reported an overall reduction in stress and an increase in family functioning following their retreat program experience.
Connections is Momcology’s collaborative evidence-based caregiver support group created in response to caregiver-reported distress and the desire to build a facilitated psychosocial support community within treatment centers for parents. The Connections program has been celebrated by pediatric cancer care professionals and patient families as a successful community-based intervention and model in wrap-around family-centered care. Momcology has deconstructed the traditional hospital Caregiver Lounge through our evening webinar series facilitated by pediatric cancer experts with Momcology. Webinars feature professional presentations with representatives from our hospital partners across the United States and an interactive question-and-answer segment with our live caregiver audience. Recordings of past episodes can be found in our Caregiver Lounge archives. Sit back, relax, and welcome to our couch!
Our Mother’s Day event is our biggest annual support program directly reaching thousands of families each year. Each gift is curated to promote childhood cancer awareness and connect our community. These gifts are meant to remind our community that a strong network of support exists when we look beyond what we must bear each day in the heaviness of our actions and thoughts; and that carrying the title of cancer mom is an extraordinary part of being a mother.
Dads need support too. Dadcology is a program specific to dads who are looking for social peer connections with other fathers as part of their support system after a childhood cancer diagnosis. Fathers of children diagnosed with cancer can join a Dadcology support group on social media and take part in monthly Dadcology meetings facilitated by trained Dadcology peer leaders.
